Part 1 of a 2-part Caesarea series takes us to the outskirts of Herod's magnificent port city. Beginning at the little know but amazing archeology museum of Kibbutz Sedot Yam, where we will travel through Roman and Greek mythology and Talmudic personalities as we walk by statues and inscriptions recovered from the ruins of Caesarea. While there, we will visit the Hannah Szenes Museum and learn about this amazing woman who parachuted into occupied Europe to support Allied efforts and help rescue Jews.
On our way to Mei Kedem we stop at Kibbutz Beit Hananya to see an impressive section of the upper Roman Aqueduct to Caesarea.
We will break for lunch at Park Alona (Mei Kedem) where there are tables in the beautiful fields of moshav Amikam in the Taninim valley. There is a snack bar for coffee and other refreshments.
We will then take a cool refreshing walk-through the Mei Kedem (aka Park Alona) water tunnel built 2000 years ago to supply water to Caesarea. Water can reach our waists so bring water shoes and bathing suits. A perfect ending to a tiyul on a hot day.
